Sky Guardian Walkthrough
Sky Guardian is a helicopter shooting game featuring superb graphics, a variety of weapons and upgrades, and challenging gameplay.
The objective of Sky Guardian is to assist UN peacekeepers in their liberation of the fictional African republic of Zambafa. To accomplish this goal, you will have to complete various missions such as escorting convoys, seeking and destroying enemies, and attacking enemy bases. Before each mission begins, you are presented with a map displaying the general area of operation and all of your waypoints. Once you have entered the game, waypoints are marked by blue '"X's" and a blue arrow in the center of the screen points to your next waypoint. Fly from waypoint-to-waypoint, destroy any enemies that you encounter, and land at the final waypoint.
Sky Guardian uses a control scheme used in similar helicopter games and shooting games. The WASD keys are used to move your helicopter. The A and D keys move your chopper left and right respectively and the W and S keys move your chopper up and down. Unfortunately, the arrow keys are not usable in this helicopter game. The mouse is used to aim and to shoot. Shooting is semiautomatic, so you will have to repeatedly click in order to fire rapidly. Your chopper will face your mouse cursor at all times. The mouse also causes your helicopter to move based on the distance of your mouse cursor from the center of the screen. For example, if your pointer is in the upper-right corner, your helicopter will hover towards the lower-left corner of the screen. If you move your cursor towards the center of the screen, your helicopter will hover closer to the center of the screen as well. This element of the control scheme can be confusing and annoying at first, but once you get the hang of it, you will find that it can help you to quickly dodge enemy projectiles.
Sky Guardian may not have hordes of enemies or projectiles, but don't let that fool you; this is still a very challenging shooting game! Your chopper is quite fragile for starters, and your weapons are not very effective either. Luckily, you can use tech points earned by destroying enemies to purchase upgrades before each mission. I advise purchasing shield upgrades first to improve your helicopter's survivability. If you want to pack a wallop, you can upgrade your arsenal with missiles, homing missiles, and lasers. Once you have acquired these weapons, you may use the number keys (1-4) to switch between weapons. These weapons have limited ammo, however, so use them sparingly. Unfortunately, everything will be lost the next time that you play this helicopter game since there is no save feature.
Sky Guardian is not a perfect shooting game, but it is still a fun way to pass time. If you are up for a slower-paced challenge instead of a typical bullet hell SHMUP, then give this helicopter game a try!
